Young Washington: A Point of Connection Between Angel Studios & The Wonder Project

A faith-based George Washington film could tell the true story behind what makes our country great.

Jon Erwin has been working on this project for some time, but that's nothing compared to the slowly gestating spirit of independence that was brewing here in the USA before we became an independent nation. And it's nothing to a man who took our country from a rebellious upstart to a worldpower by defying the greatest military on the face of the earth, the British Empire, which was at it's height in the mid-to-late 1700's. But George Washington, and many great defenders of American liberty did it, not through political power or economic might, but through religious piety.

It's a story that we have largely forgotten in America's public schools– the public schools which have been sending kids into the workforce while unable to read and write.

But now, director Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution, Woodlawn) will be bringing us the true story of Young Washington to theaters on the date of our country's 250th Anniversary of American Independence, July 4th, 2026. We do not have a trailer yet, as the film has not been shot yet.

But wait, the box office is open and selling tickets for a film that hasn't even been shot yet? YES. It is an unprecedented thing we are seeing here, with the presale of movie tickets A YEAR in advance of the release, but this is how confident they are in this film and at Angel and The Wonder Project.

That's right, and on top of that you can win a Ford F250 truck during Angel's promotion of the film. Watch this here.

As stated on Angel's page, this film's synopsis is as such: "YOUNG WASHINGTON chronicles the origins of America’s first president. After making a tremendous mistake that triggers the French and Indian War, an ambitious 22-year-old George Washington must face his failures and find the courage to become the leader that will forge a nation."

Angel gives a press release on their new arrangement with The Wonder Project.

Angel and Wonder Project Join Forces to Announce YOUNG WASHINGTON | Angel Studios
YOUNG WASHINGTON, helmed by Jon Erwin is slated for a theatrical release July 4th weekend 2026, timed to the 250th anniversary of America’s founding. In an industry first, tickets are on sale one year in advance of theatrical release

This looks like a duel distribution agreement, but not a funding or production agreement. So, Angel may assist more with theatrical and less with streaming, while Wonder Project may do everything else: funding, production, promotion, and streaming (likely with Prime Video, if not with Angel).

This agreement may present us with a novel partnership program that may work well for future faith-based media. Options to do traditional funding or crowdfunding can then exist. Options to create with fans in mind or with studio execs in mind may also be possible, and options with theatrical and streaming will also be available.

Purchase tickets early, here.
