They say this show is like Moses and the Israelites on a reality tv show like The Office. It's funny, zany, heartfelt, and well-put together, and it finally dropped on YouTube today.
Here's the new trailer for the new episode.
You can see the new episode (episode #2, called "Sinai") of the show here.
If you haven't seen the first episode, which was the pilot, check it out first before you see the newest episode. This pilot came out last year, and now has 2M views.
It's getting some attention, at least. The podcast The Brosen, made by crew members from the show The Chosen actually made this show as well.
But why hasn't this show acquired some kind of distribution? It would get so much more attention if it did. After all, some see YouTube as a dumping ground for mediocre content, especially since it may not make any money without distribution.
The truth is, good shows often can't get distribution. You'd be surprised that I've even seen great shows getting cancelled, and great filmmakers and great screenwriters being ignored in Hollywood pretty consistently.
You'd be even more surprised to see that this is a chronic issue for faith-based film. The Chosen, for example, was an anomaly in the genre, because most artistically interesting content that is faith-based tends to get hyper-criticized or not produced at all. The simple reason Dallas Jenkins' incredible award-winning show The Chosen even got made is that it went straight to consumer through a crowdfunding campaign, bypassing "official avenues" such as distribution.
I guarantee these distribution companies would never have greenlit the show, if they had a choice.
So, hopefully this show The Promised Land may be an additional reminder to us that our faith-based genre and industry is broken. When these kinds of high quality shows can't get more support from traditional funding and traditional distribution (and the filmmakers know it) and when traditional Christian entertainment curators will fail to discuss this show widely, we know something is wrong there.
It's our loss when we can't seem to bring ourselves to encourage good Christian entertainment & art to be made, but thankfully some great investors took this project on so that it doesn't need to generate a profit for the company. It's rarer than most people realize, but thankfully it really happened, and now the quality of this show is self-evident, and we can all enjoy it as a result.
